Field-based roles
Find out where you could fit in

What do you want from your career?

If you want the opportunity to learn and develop your skills in an exciting global industry that relies on superior technology, think about Baker Hughes. As well as specific entry criteria for different roles, as outlined below, you must also have the legal right to work in the country in which you apply.

Field-based roles, generally, involve working outside with advanced tools and technology. Our field-based employees can work onshore or offshore anywhere in the world, in places such as Siberia, the North Sea, west Africa, or the US. There are numerous field locations, many of which are challenging and, in some cases, remote. You’ll be expected to cope with difficult physical conditions at times, but your work will be intellectually stimulating and enormously satisfying.

We offer two distinct field-based engineering training programs:

Field engineers
This structured three-year program is designed for students who will graduate from, or have recently completed, a minimum four-year university degree in chemistry, geosciences, engineering, or an engineering-related subject, with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 (2.1). You will also need to demonstrate fluency in English (level 5 on a global English test). After beginning your career in the field, field engineers progress into other areas of the business, depending on individual abilities and skills. Find out more here

Field specialists
The field specialist program is designed for those who have graduated from a two-to-four year technical college diploma course in engineering, electronics or an engineering-related subject. In this program, the structured first-year training schedule leads to a further two years of self-directed training. The result is a fulfilling and exciting field-based career.
